Winners of Stage 1 of Design Competition Announced - 21 February 2008

The Chairman of the Australian Peacekeeping Memorial Project, Major General Tim Ford (Retired), today revealed the names of the four teams selected as finalists in the competition to design the Memorial which is to be built on ANZAC Parade in Canberra. The four teams winning teams are:

General Ford said that each of the four had come up with a very different response to the design brief but the Jury had considered that all four had the potential to be developed into a suitable Memorial. He congratulated the winners and welcomed their determination to design a memorial that will meet the requirements, "We want a memorial with which present and future veterans of peacekeeping operations can identify" he said. "The winning design will in addition increase awareness in the Australian community of peacekeeping as well as be an architectural enhancement of the national capital." Stage two of the competition will finish with submissions on 6 March.

The Australian Peacekeeping Memorial will commemorate and celebrate Australian peacekeeping over the last 60 years and into the future. Donations towards construction of the memorial are tax deductible.
