Major Garry McKay served as a National Serviceman in Vietnam as a member of the 3rd Cavaly Regiment from 1966 to 1968. On his return to Australia he returned to his profession of banking. For the next 30 years Garry worked in various finanancial capacities including retail, relationship banking, and occupying a position with a major health fund working in corporate and financial roles.

Garry returned to the Army Reserve in 1988 before commencing Continual Full Time Service in 2004. Since his return to the Army, Garry had postings to the Army Financial Services Unit and the Directorate of Occupational Health and Safety - Army. Garry is now posted to the Personnel Information Management Systems - Army as the Second in Command. In early 2006 he was posted to Afghanistan as the Financial Advisor for 16 Brigade.
